Reflecting on Strategies and Support that Helped our Business through Lockdown

Post-pandemic, we reflect on strategies and support that helped our business through lockdown. At Temple Skincare & Spa, Rene’s multi-awarded Day Spa and Medispa in Castle Hill, we celebrated our 19th business anniversary in March this year, and how grateful to say it was quite different to last year, when we had only just launched our Temple Birthday Calendar and promotions, only to enter into lockdown for an unknown period (at that time). 

Initially when COIVD 19 struck, after accepting the reality of it all, we kept our heads above water with some self-care and humour. Our Temple Family (Clients) loved hearing from us regularly and it gave them (and our Team) a sense of normality to stay in touch with each other. There is nothing more powerful than human connection and our clients value the authenticity and sincere relationships we have with them.

Amidst deflecting with a little humour, behind the scenes we took things very seriously and the very next day after the lockdown announcement, the team and I got to work preparing bespoke at home treatment kits with support material for our clients. Our suppliers like Professional Beauty Solutions and Germaine de Capuccini were wonderful and right there to support us from the word go. We did what we do best and a week later we were ready to launch Temple Online Skin Support. 

We are so grateful to have come through this crisis and while we have a strong reputation and business model, Temple Skincare & Spa is still a family-owned business, like most salon and spa operators out there, so I can really relate to the stress and pressure felt by all business owners in our industry, and I am happy to share the strategies and support that got us through lockdown. 

Lockdown was not all bad, it gave rise to our online video skin consultations, which is still in popular demand and it’s so convenient to have a live chat with an experienced skin expert who can have your skincare routine and treatment plan all ready to go, within 30 minutes.

Another lockdown hero is the Power Peel,  which featured when we all felt a little less than glowing and we were having withdrawals from missing out on our regular treatments, along came this powerhouse routine to give brightness, glow, and vitality. Then finally, the “How to…” video tutorials which were a crowd fav with our homecare DIY packs teaching our clients how to do Skin Rolling at home, how to do Rose Quartz lymphatic drainage, how to Power Peel and the list goes on!

These are great booster routines but let me tell you in the words of our clients, nothing comes close to the actual experience of being on that bed, having the healing touch and expertise of therapists who know and love what they do. We are so happy to be back in full swing and while the future remains a mystery, we are grateful to be here with you and look forward to the journey ahead. 

Necessity is the Mother of All Invention

The Temple Team took to social media with educational tutorials on their favourite DIY at home treatments and products. We created step by step instruction videos and cue cards for treatment steps, covering more than 10 at home protocols, ranging from Germaine de Capuccini Facials to Image Skincare Corrective Facials, Skin Needling, Callous Foot Peels and Lash & Brow services. Our goal was to continue to offer our clients access to expertise, great products, and the quality self-care service that they are accustomed to. One of the kits that performed particularly well and continues to be one of our best sellers is the at home Power Peel, designed to provide a multi-exfoliation experience and give the client a little taste of in-salon results at home within the safety of professional guidance.

We also hosted Skin School for our loyal teens, who received DIY skincare packs and attended our online program, this is an educational workshop we regularly host during the school holidays.  In addition, Temple’s clients were provided with access to online consultations via Zoom and that way we were able to assess their skincare needs and make recommendations accordingly. This was accompanied by free home delivery for anyone in the Hills District, Sydney.

The Road Ahead

We can all agree that COVID 19 has forever changed the face of the Beauty Industry on so many levels and the idea that the personal interaction with our clients which we love and value as therapists could be taken away at any moment, makes one so much more grateful to be back in business and operating as usual.

We retained many valuable business strategies that we may never have ventured into if it were not for lockdown and having to think outside the square.
